Halls of Residence

A Hall of Residence is a building divided into single or multiple occupancy rooms for students. Most rooms vary in size, type, and facilities. Students can choose to stay at private hall of residence or the university’s own hall of residence. Most privately owned are of a higher standard and newer than those owned by colleges or universities. The furniture provided in the study bedrooms varies slightly between Halls but a single bed, mattress, wardrobe, drawers, desk and desk chair are usually provided as a minimum. The following options need to be considered when choosing a Hall of Residence and these will have an effect on the cost


Single or Multiple Occupancy?
En Suite room or Shared bathroom and toilet?
Wash basin in a room or not? 
Paid or Free Internet access?
Catered or self catering accommodation?

If Self Catering halls, how many students share kitchen facilities?
If catered halls, is the cost of meals included and how many meals provided?
Residency period, term time only, term time plus some vacations, or whole year?
Inclusive or exclusive of utility bills (water, electric, and gas)?
Smoking or non smoking


TV License included?
Housekeeping included?
Location, in a city or on a campus?

Private Hall or University Hall


Self Catering Accommodation:

There are no meals provided and you will have to share kitchen facilities with other hall residents. Normally you only need to bring cutlery, plates, bowls, pots and pans as other essential items such as micro wave, fridge, and freezer are supplied by the provider. Catered Accommodation: There are meals provided but they may be subject to extra charge. You will share a canteen with other students who live in the same Building. Halls of residence will give you freedom, fun and can be quite an experience. With British and other international friends, you will definitely enjoy student life. Most halls are located in the city, near the campus or in student areas so it can sometimes be very noisy. Often, Students may request a particular room but there is no guarantee you will get it.

International Student Allocation Policy
Most University accommodation will have “International Student Allocation Policy” and guarantee a room in student accommodation to all international (non EU) students for their first year at the university, provided that they return their accommodation booking form and pay the required deposit before the deadline date.


Cost
Fees are between £80 - £200 a week depending on location and facilities. You will be asked to sign a tenancy agreement of a minimum period between 32 - 52 weeks. Please note: Accommodation costs in London are higher than those located outside London.
